2gether Support Solutions is a Facilities and Estates services company providing support to healthcare professionals caring for over 2000 patients daily across multiple East Kent hospital sites. 2gether provides vital services including maintenance, cleaning, catering, procurement, logistics and much more.

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to further their career in Medical equipment engineering. 

Ideally, you will be from a medical device engineering background.  However, we are very welcoming to those coming from other backgrounds of engineering training including electro biomedical or digital repair technicians, as well as those perhaps coming from a ex services background that have sound training within aircraft, telecoms or ground engineering trades.

You will be part of a team maintaining medical equipment and supporting Medical Equipment Libraries (MELs) and Radiology Maintenance. The team is required to work to a high standard of safety and accountability, in line with: the departmental quality management system (QMS), the policy for the management of medical devices, MHRA guidance, Care Quality Commission regulations and 2gether employment policies.

You will liaise and work closely with healthcare professionals, manufacturers’ representatives, engineers, and technical staff to provide applications advice, device evaluation, acceptance testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, calibration and maintenance of a diverse range of diagnostic, therapeutic and point of care testing equipment, ensuring it functions correctly, is within calibration limits, and safe for patient and staff use. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a clinical technical service for the application, calibration, quality control and troubleshooting of a specific range of diagnostic, therapeutic and point of care testing equipment as agreed in the annual Individual Performance Review.
  • Use technical and clinical experience to identify potentially hazardous symptoms and faults when in clinical areas or in talking to clinical staff.
  • Liaise with clinical staff in order to undertake preventative maintenance and rectify problems, minimising impact on patient treatment lists.
  • Liaise with patients in hospital and in their home, communicating technical information, advice and arrangements for the maintenance and repair of their equipment.
  • Carry out daily maintenance and repairs of medical devices, as directed by the EME Site lead, according to agreed service standards and work instructions.
  • Organise, prioritise and control work using own initiative, without managerial input and when carrying out work in patients’ homes.
  • Perform a range of inspection, maintenance and testing on a variety of medical equipment throughout East Kent and beyond; including commissioning, acceptance testing, calibration, safety tests and performance checks to manufacturer’s specifications. Reporting adverse fault conditions to supervisor.
  • Ensure that work records and all other documentation is accurate and consistently completed in a timely manner. Documents will be scrutinised, scanned, and must accurately be attached to various electronic databases
  • Work within the requirements of the departmental quality management system.

The candidate:

The successful candidate will have an engineering background, and possess the following skills:

  • Computer literate, especially in the use of Excel
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build working relationships and good prioritisation and time management skills

Qualifications: 

  • Ideally, you will either have an HNC, with 2+ years’ experience.  Or, an ONC with 5 + Years’ Experience.  (desirable, not essential).

Prior experience or knowledge of the clinical application, operation and maintenance of a range of medical devices is desirable, but not essential.
