2gether Support Solutions is a Facilities and Estates services company providing support to healthcare professionals caring for over 2000 patients daily across multiple East Kent hospital sites. 2gether provides vital services including maintenance, cleaning, catering, procurement, logistics and much more.

 

We are looking for a Medical Equipment Library Technician (MEL) to join our team at the QEQM Hospital in Margate, Kent and play an important role in the safe, effective and efficient management of medical equipment.

 

The Medical Equipment Library team helps ensure that essential medical equipment is available when and where it is needed. This is a practical and varied role, combining equipment management, routine maintenance, stock control, collection and delivery, record keeping and customer service.

You will work closely with a wide range of colleagues across the organisation, helping to ensure equipment is maintained, available and ready for use.

 

Working Hours and Pattern: 

 

The role operates on a 1 in 2 weekend working pattern.

1 week out of every 2, you will work Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.

On your allocated weekend working week, you will work Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 12pm. This week includes a weekday off and one shorter weekday shift to maintain a 37.5 hour working week.

The weekday day off and shorter 3.30pm finish can fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, taking candidate preference into account where possible.

 

What you'll be doing:

 

  • Carry out routine first line maintenance and checks on a range of medical equipment, following appropriate training and competency assessment.
  • Clean, prepare and maintain medical devices in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Collect and deliver medical equipment to wards and clinical areas.
  • Help ensure equipment is available where it is needed, responding to requests and prioritising work appropriately.
  • Identify equipment that requires further technical attention and remove it from use where necessary.
  • Support the day to day operation of the Medical Equipment Library.
  • Manage and maintain equipment, consumables and stock, ensuring accurate records are kept.
  • Process relevant documentation, including delivery notes and stock records.
  • Support audit and quality assurance activities as required.
  • Respond professionally and helpfully to requests and enquiries from service users.
  • Escalate non routine or more complex issues to appropriate senior colleagues.
  • Work in accordance with departmental procedures, policies and quality requirements.
  • Organise and prioritise your workload to ensure tasks and deadlines are met.
  • Develop effective working relationships with a wide range of colleagues.

 

The role requires someone who can respond to changing priorities and manage an occasionally unpredictable workload, whilst maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach. The role also requires equipment to be delivered promptly when needed.

 

About you:

 

We are looking for someone who is organised, practical, reliable and comfortable working in a busy environment.

 

You will need to have:

 

  • A sound understanding of the management of medical devices.
  • Good IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in a customer service or care environment.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage and prioritise your workload.
  • The ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of people.
  • A willingness to undertake additional training and develop your knowledge and skills.
  • The ability to work accurately and follow established procedures.
  • A practical approach and the ability to handle medical equipment appropriately.

 

Experience or qualifications in an electronics, science or engineering discipline would be advantageous, as would experience of working with medical equipment. An ONC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in electronics, science or engineering would also be desirable.

 

Working with others

 

The role involves regular contact with a wide range of colleagues, including nursing and clinical staff, porters, managers, suppliers and other healthcare professionals.

Building positive working relationships is an important part of the role. You will need to be approachable, professional and able to respond calmly and effectively to requests, including when equipment is urgently required.
